Copy Tiger’s new swing at your own risk

This week, we get to see Tiger Woods’ latest swing makeover — the one he’s been working on with new teacher Sean Foley. This is the third such overhaul of Tiger’s amazing career but the first that seemed like an act of desperation. The first swing alteration with Butch Harmon occurred after Tiger won the 1997 Masters by a record 12 shots. The second change came with Hank Haney as Tiger’s coach. And now there’s Foley, who also teaches Tiger’s friend, Sean O’Hair. This swing change has occurred during what is easily the worst ball-striking stretch of Tiger’s career.

Since he started teaching golf 28 years ago, Brian Manzella has been driven to find innovative ways to help students improve. That desire is producing a remarkable career for this GOLF Magazine Top 100 Teacher. Former PGA Champion David Toms has often sought Manzella’s swing advice since 1988. After receiving the highest certification from The Golfing Machine, a teaching organization based on one of the sport’s cult-classic instruction books, Manzella left to start Project 1.68, an explanation of the synergy of the sciences as they apply to the golf swing. This iconoclast’s growing influence also can be seen in the 11 certified Brian Manzella Academy instructors in six states and Australia, as well as the annual education conference Manzella founded in 2009, the GTE, for “Golf Teacher Excellence.”

Padraig Harrington disqualified after viewer e-mails rules violation

Just another ho-hum day in the crazy, whirlwind life of Padraig Harrington.

On Thursday, he confused everyone with his 11 swing changes. On Friday, he was disqualified from the Abu Dhabi Championship for inadvertently and innocently breaking a rule on the seventh green in his first round. (Scroll down to watch a video of the violation.)
